Production Control in Odoo: What It Does, What It Costs, Where It Stops

Production control in Odoo means that bills of materials, work centres, manufacturing orders and material consumption live in one database with the warehouse, purchasing and sales. The basic Manufacturing (MRP) module is also in the free Community edition. According to Odoo, the Shopfloor screen, capacity scheduling, PLM and the Quality module are only in the paid Enterprise edition. At Lumenax a project with production for a firm of 6 to 20 people comes to CZK 280,000 to 690,000 according to its calculator, with a licence of CZK 0 and running costs of CZK 3,400 a month plus CZK 249 per full user.

Key takeaways
  • The Manufacturing (MRP) module is in Odoo Community and Enterprise.
  • Shopfloor, capacity scheduling, PLM and Quality are only in Enterprise according to Odoo.
  • A project with production for 6 to 20 people: CZK 280,000 to 690,000 per the Lumenax calculator.
  • Data collection from machines and detailed shift scheduling are an extra project, the fit-gap analysis says so.
  • Licence CZK 0, running CZK 3,400 a month plus CZK 249 per full user.

The Odoo figures are from odoo.com as of 25 October 2026, the Lumenax figures from lumenax.cz on the same day.

What production control in Odoo contains

The Odoo 19 guide describes for manufacturing bills of materials including multilevel ones, kits, work centres, dependencies between work orders, a master production schedule, scrap, backorders, splitting and merging manufacturing orders, unbuilding a product and by-products. Odoo also states that components can be traced by batches and serial numbers.

Lumenax describes its production in xOffice in six points:

  • Multilevel bills of materials with semi-finished goods, variants, substitute material and by-products.
  • Work centres and production steps: the procedure step by step, times, capacities and work centre costs.
  • Manufacturing orders from an order, from minimum stock or by hand, with the status visible to the whole firm.
  • Material requirements: what is missing for production flows into purchase suggestions.
  • Production costs: material and labour on each order, a comparison of the plan with what happened.
  • Machine maintenance: planned maintenance and breakdowns on machines.

Community or Enterprise: what is where

Odoo has two editions and shows on its comparison page what is in which. Lumenax builds on Community and Odoo 19.

FeatureCommunityEnterprise
Manufacturing (MRP)YesYes
MaintenanceYesYes
Warehouse (Inventory)YesYes
Barcodes in the warehouseNoYes
Shopfloor, panel, production schedule (Scheduling)NoYes
PLM (product version control)NoYes
QualityNoYes
Full accountingNoYes

It follows what not to rely on in Community: Odoo shows for its Manufacturing product a Gantt with finite capacity scheduling and a tablet Shopfloor screen, but the editions table marks Shopfloor and Scheduling as Enterprise. Check with Odoo what exactly the Gantt involves. Lumenax handles this on its production page by adding detailed scheduling and data collection from machines if production needs them, and says so in the fit-gap analysis.

Mind the edition. Shopfloor, Scheduling, PLM and Quality are only in Enterprise according to odoo.com; Lumenax builds on Community.

From an order to a finished piece

This is how Lumenax describes the path of a job through the system:

  1. An order arises from a sales order, from minimum stock, or you enter it by hand. Both the salesperson and the foreman see it.
  2. From the bill of materials the system works out what is missing and passes it into purchase suggestions.
  3. The order breaks down into steps with times and work centre capacities.
  4. Material and labour are recorded on the order and you compare the plan with what happened.
  5. The finished product ends up in the warehouse and leaves through the same system the order came through.

The warehouse belongs in the same database. According to the page on the warehouse system it handles several warehouses and locations, batches and serial numbers with watching of the expiry date, order suggestions by minimum and maximum, FIFO or average warehouse price and continuous and annual stocktaking.

  5. Warehouse and dispatchThe finished product leaves through the same system.

Where the limits are

Lumenax writes that Odoo covers production planning and control directly in the ERP, while a full MES with data collected directly from machines it adds only when production needs it. Detailed shift scheduling and process production with recipes it handles, according to its pages, case by case after the fit-gap analysis, with no promises in advance. So expect that in production where data collection from machines or scheduling to the minute is decisive, an extra project arises.

What production costs

The Community licence costs CZK 0. Running at Lumenax is CZK 3,400 a month for the server and CZK 249 per full user, that is CZK 7,135 a month for 15 users and CZK 10,870 for 30. The one-off project is estimated by the calculator on lumenax.cz for a CRM, accounting, warehouse and production with a basic link to surrounding systems as follows:

FirmWhat is transferredProject estimate
6 to 20 people (6 to 15 users)No data transferCZK 280,000 to 690,000
6 to 20 peopleBasic dataCZK 300,000 to 730,000

21 to 50 people (over 30 users)Data with history and standard links to surrounding systemsCZK 670,000 to 1,590,000

The Production module adds CZK 60,000 to the base in the calculator. Data transfer is separate: basic from CZK 25,000, with history from CZK 60,000, a full move from an ERP from CZK 120,000. Cleaning faulty data is not included. Custom solutions, such as your own production planning, Lumenax prices separately after the fit-gap analysis. An hour of work outside the fixed price costs CZK 3,300, or from CZK 2,200 for larger volumes. A breakdown of prices is in the article on the cost of Odoo.

Questions for every supplier of a production ERP

Ask Lumenax and anyone else the same questions and have the answers written into the quote.

  1. What am I paying for? Per user, per module, or a rental? What happens to the price when more people in the workshop are added?
  2. What is in the base and what only in the dearer edition? With Odoo, Shopfloor, scheduling and Quality are only in Enterprise.
  3. Who owns the data and the adjustments? Lumenax states that the code and data stay with the customer and export is possible at any time.
  4. Is the price fixed? Lumenax promises it after the fit-gap analysis, before work begins.

If you run production next to an accounting program, you will find a comparison in the article on Pohoda, Money S3 and Helios. If you are only considering whether spreadsheets are enough, read the five signs from the article on moving from Excel.

How the rollout goes

Lumenax states 4 to 12 weeks depending on scope. First comes the fit-gap analysis: for each process it writes whether the system covers it by configuration, by adjustment or not at all. Then it sets up modules, roles and rights and transfers the data. Key people work in a trial copy with their data until it fits. The switch happens in a quiet period. The date is confirmed only by the analysis.

Common questions

What is Odoo MRP and what does it do in the Community version?

MRP is the Manufacturing module. It is in both Community and Enterprise. According to Odoo, Community does not have Shopfloor, capacity scheduling (Scheduling), PLM or Quality; those are only in Enterprise.

How does production planning work in Odoo?

A manufacturing order arises from an order, from minimum stock or by hand. From the bill of materials the system works out what is missing and passes it into purchase suggestions. The order breaks down into steps at work centres with times and capacities, and the plan is compared with what happened.

How much does Odoo production and an ERP for a manufacturing firm cost?

The Community licence costs CZK 0. A project with a CRM, accounting, warehouse and production for 6 to 20 people comes to CZK 280,000 to 690,000 according to the calculator, and for 21 to 50 people to CZK 500,000 to 1,230,000. Running is CZK 3,400 a month plus CZK 249 per full user. You get a fixed price after the fit-gap analysis.

Will Odoo replace a separate MES?

It covers production planning and control in the ERP. Data collection directly from machines and detailed shift scheduling Lumenax adds if production needs them. It says so in the fit-gap analysis, not through a promise in advance.
